“The Big Bang Theory” pulled off a pretty rare feat during premiere week: Its season premiere had more viewers than “Sunday Night Football.”
The CBS comedy opened its 11th season with an audience of 17.66 million viewers, its highest viewership in two years. Spinoff “Young Sheldon” (17.22 million) also topped “Sunday Night Football” (16.73 million, down from 18.06 million the same week in 2016) in viewers.
“SNF” held onto its adults 18-49 crown with a 5.8 rating and led NBC to a premiere week victory in the demographic with a 2.1. A series-high mark from “This Is Us” (3.9) didn’t hurt either. CBS topped the week in viewers with 9.5 million.
“The Big Bang Theory” was the top non-sports show in the 18-49 demographic at 4.1.
